Aquamarine

Element: Water
Chakra: Throat

Aquamarine (Latin for Water of the Sea) is a clear to opaque, light blue to light green variety of Beryl, which is a member of the Feldspar group.

Legend says that it has its origins in the treasure chests of the mermaids. Aquamarine was believed to contain the "power of the sea". Sailors used this stone as a protection talisman to keep them safe from storms and to keep them from drowning.

This gentle blue green stone is wonderful for reducing stress in life and giving you the courage to take new journeys. It can help you to unblock communication and promote your own self expression. It is particularly beneficial in activating the Throat Chakra giving the courage to speak ones truth and the serenity to do so in a balanced manner.

Aquamarine is used metaphysically to dispel anger and fear and increase sensitivity. It’s energies are calming and it is believed to instill courage and fortitude and to counteract a victim mentality. It harmonizes its surroundings and protects against pollutants.

Aquamarine is claimed to bring serenity and calm the mind and is an excellent crystal to help you overcome anxiety and stress. In addition to calming the nerves Aquamarine reduces fluid retention, it is good for strengthening the kidneys, liver spleen and thyroid. It is useful for sore throats and swollen glands. This stone has a general tonic effect and it is also an outstanding cleansing stone. Use to overcome over reactions of the immune and auto-immune systems, like hay fever.

Meanwhile, how awesome is my photo? (The large cluster the crystals are resting on is Amethyst) Aquamarine works really well as a necklace being in such close contact with your throat chakra. I don't find myself wearing it too often, but my throat chakra is almost always open. I have found it useful for public speaking, when giving presentations and training people , and additionally in meetings where it has been important for me to get my point across. It really is a beautiful stone and it loves to be near water, especially the ocean. -wear it for a swim in the surf and see for yourself.
