The Scent of Bliss.

Jonquils, Eggs and Bacon, Early Cheer. Daffodils.
Winter and spring bulbs. I Love them.
The scent of my childhood still evokes a sense of 'coming home'.
Instant..... tranquility.
Every breath in, an inhalation of bliss.
There are a few scents that for me have an intrinsic ability to heal.
Early cheer, Huon pine, Night blooming jasmine, Sandalwood.

** And my $2 market find anodised jug.

CHAI SPICE AROMATHERAPY ROOM MIST

Living in inner city Brisbane, I am spoilt for choice in terms of natural and ethical supplies available and places to shop. -My favourite for my lotion and potion supplies is Handmade Naturals at Highgate Hill just out of the city, where you can get little jars and spray bottles as well as raw ingredients.

I LOVE the scent (and taste!) of Chai. I put together this little blend the other night and it is divine. I've been using it in the bathroom as an air freshener. The vinegar and the green tea seem to snap any nasty odors right out of the air. The chai scent does not hang around too long, but as with most earthy scents, I expect this will layer over time and become more obvious .  You can of course substitute the essential oils used for your own preferred blends. The active ingredients are the vinegar (or witch hazel) and green tea, both for their odor neutralising properties.

For this recipe you will need:
  • A little spray bottle
  • White vinegar - you could also use witch hazel
  • A few Cardamon Pods
  • A few Black peppercorns
  • 4 drops Cinnamon Essential Oil
  • 3 drops Clove Bud Essential Oil (you could also substitute with actual cloves)
  • 3 drops Orange Essential Oil
  • 2 drops Patchouli Essential Oil
  • Green tea
Method:
  • Fill the spray bottle half with vinegar/witch hazel
  • Crush the cardamon to release its scent
  • Add the cardamon and the black pepper to the bottle
  • Add the essential oils
  • Top up with green tea
  • Shake it up and leave it to infuse for a day or two before use

AROMATHERAPY ROOM SALTS

These salts look great and smell totally blissful. (Plus it puts great use to the little pottery and wooden bowls I seem to collect everywhere I go.) If you put the bowls in a sunny location, you'll get a stronger release of scent. Every now and then give them a bit of a crunch and this will help to keep them smelling strong - you can of course top them up with more oils if you find the scent faded.

As always you can substitute the essential oils used for your preferred blends, however bare in mind the placement of the bowls when choosing your oils -ie. calming oils for the bedroom or warm or stimulating oils for living spaces.

** Please note the quantity of essential oil below is for room salts only. It is too strong for the bath, If you intend on using these for bath salts, half the number of drops of essential oils and mix the rock salts by half with Epsom salts.**

To make:
Mix together a blend of the salts you're using.
I've used Celtic Sea Salt and Himalayan Rock Salt.
For every cup of salt, add about 25 drops of essential oil.
For the mix below, I keep in my bedroom, I've used a blend of Rose Geranium, Mandarin, Frankincense, Ylang Ylang and Patchouli.
To make it look extra lovely, you can add any blend of dried herbs or flowers you chose, or even little crystals. I avoid using dyes to colour the salts as they will inevitably get bumped and spilled occasionally.
